Mary Lou Yetis

1937 to 2007

 

 Mary Lou A. (French) Yetis passed away peacefully, January 18, 2007, with her family beside her. Mary Lou's journey through life began and ended in the arms of family and in the homes that love built. On a snowy January day in 1937, at the home of her Aunt Kate and Uncle Henry on Hurd Street, Mary Lou was welcomed into the warm arms of her loving parents, Norman and Winifred (Kilcourse) French and her big sister, Joan (French) Barchick. She grew up in East Toledo and attended St. Thomas Aquinas Elementary. Central Catholic High School, class of 1954, was her Alma Mater. After graduation, Mary Lou pursued studies as a Registered Nurse at the Toledo Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1958. In all her nursing roles, she was well respected by her colleagues for her knowledge, skills and thoughtfulness. Mary Lou found strength in her family. Because she received encouragement and support, she gave the same in return. Together, with her husband and soul mate, Atilla M. Yetis, a wonderful life was built. They shared countless joyful memories. She delighted in daughter and son-in-law, Nil and Mark Gallagher, they shared many family occasions. They took wonderful care of Mary Lou through the end of her life journey. Her granddaughters'-Kelly, Erin, and Megan Gallagher-presence and companionship brought her joy, she was very proud of them. She had a special place in her heart for her sister, Joan, whom she dearly loved and appreciated. A sister is an endless source of unconditional love . . . forever. They shared many memories. Travel, fine art, cuisine and canines were a few of Mary Lou's passions. Mary Lou traveled around the world after becoming an RN. One of her favorite countries was Turkey, the homeland of her husband, Atilla. She cultivated a penchant for Turkish culture, cooking and language. Mary Lou nourished her appreciation of art through her experiences as a Docent for the Toledo Museum of Art. Sharing the treasure of the Museum with others brought her joy. One of her favorite pastimes was cooking, and her dishes were enjoyed by many. Her lemon tea breads, soups and eggplant dishes will be especially missed. The loyalty and companionship of her pets was a spring of comfort and inspiration. Her faithful friends and protectors included Nikki, Gigi, Kerry, Kelly, Rusty, Lady, Red, Lucky, Katie and Emily. Mary Lou is preceded in death by her husband, Atilla and parents. She is survived by her loving daughter and son-in-law; granddaughters; sister and her children, Susan (Thomas) Eisel, Douglas (Teresa) Barchick, Patricia (Michael) Gory, and Jacqueline Barchick (Cooper Suter) and great-nieces and nephews, including Natalie, Patricia and James Eisel; Eric and Sean Barchick; Kelsie Gory, and Anna and Winifred Barchick-Suter. Friends may call at the Reeb Funeral Home, 5712 N. Main St., Sylvania on Sunday, January 21 from 4-9 p.m., where the Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be conducted at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Sylvania, Monday at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. reebfuneralhome.com The family wishes to thank Hospice of Northwest Ohio and special caregivers, Jeanine, Heather, Christina, Courtney, Kathi, Linda, Chris, and Linda (Bender).
