Mary
Lou Reed passed away Monday, March
26, 2007, at the Goerlich Center
for Alzheimer’s Care where she had
lived for the past five years. She
was 80 years old.
Mary
Lou was the youngest of seven
children of John C. and Lula F.
(Clifton) Cook. She is survived by
her brother, Thomas Cook, and her
sisters Norma (Cook) Tune and Jean
(Cook) Engler. She was preceded in
death by her sisters, Alliene
Midkiff and Nina Haltom, and
brother, Cyril Cook.
She
earned her R.N. degree from Baptist
Memorial Hospital in Memphis,
Tennessee, and began her nursing
career in Louisville, Kentucky. She
met and married Dr. Benjamin H. Reed
on December 13, 1948. They
eventually moved to Delta, Ohio,
where they raised three children
(Dave, Nancy, and Tom). During this
time, she earned her Bachelors and
Masters Degrees in Health Education
from the University of Toledo.
She
resumed her nursing career in 1975,
first at Parkview Hospital, and then
at Toledo Hospital. She worked in
the Education Department where she
developed a course teaching safety
for working with AIDS patients. In
1989, she retired to Hot Springs
Village, Arkansas.
Mary
Lou enjoyed reading, traveling, golf
and the outdoors. She loved her
family.
She
is also survived by her children,
David (Sue) Reed, Nancy Reed and
Thomas Reed, and grandchildren,
Peter Reed and Molly Reed.
Her
family wishes to thank the nurses
and staff at the Goerlich Center and
at Visiting Nurses & Hospice.
There will be no visitation. A
private memorial service will be
held Friday March 30, 2007, at Reeb
Funeral Home. Memorial contributions
may be made to the Alzheimer’s
Association or the Goerlich Center
for Alzheimer’s Care.
