Burdell (Burt) Moose, died,
Wednesday, February 28, 2007.
Burt was born in Defiance, Ohio
on September 29 1934 to Lavina and
Freeman Moose. He graduated from
DeVilbiss High School in 1952. He
served two years in the United
States Coast Guard.
Burt worked for Simmons Landscape
during and after high school. He
married Sue Reed on July 7th,
1956 at Epiphany Lutheran Church. He
was employed at the former Wayne
Reed, Inc. for twenty-five years. He
started his own company, Burt Moose,
Inc. in 1982 doing mainline,
waterline and storm and sanitary
sewers. He was a member of the Ohio
Contractors Association.
He was a member of Providence
Lutheran Church in Holland, where he
served as Sunday School
superintendent for five years and
president of church council for one
year. Burt was a Springfield
Township Trustee for sixteen years.
Burt greatly enjoyed our weekend
get-away place in southern Hillsdale
County, where he spent two summers
of weekends digging a two acre farm
pond we laughingly called “Moose
Lake,” and created a wonderful
family gathering place.
He is survived by his wife of
fifty years, Sue; daughter Sheryl
(Mike) Carroll; son Jeff (Erin);
grandchildren Steve (Jenna) Malorie,
Brian Carroll, Sarah and Adam Moose;
step grandson Connor; brother Leslie
(Dorothy) and sisters Evon (Kenneth)
Rufenacht, Beverly (Jim) Brown and
Karen (Robert) Cordrey.
Visitation will be at Reeb
Funeral Home in Sylvania, Ohio on
March 2 from 4pm until 9pm. The
funeral will be at Providence
Lutheran Church, 8131 Airport
Highway in Holland at 11:00am on
March 3, Saturday with Pastor
Richard Ferne officiating. Interment
will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery
near Neapolis, Ohio. Those wishing
to give a memorial in Burt’s honor
may do so to Providence Lutheran
Church or Community of Christ
Lutheran Church, Whitehouse, Ohio.
